Why natural wood with no finish? To begin with, natural wood products tend to have naturally occurring antibacterial properties. In short, bacteria doesn’t tend to multiply or live long on dry natural wood. Secondly, we want our products to be safe and environmentally friendly. Many finishes and varnishes are harmful to either humans or our planet.
care & cleaning
Toys need cleaned from time to time. How do you care for the Digit Widgit since it is natural wood without a finish?
DO NOT submerge the blocks in liquid. Wipe down the surface with a damp cloth. Gentle cleansers if necessary. We do not recommend spraying the blocks with any cleaning solution. If a cleaning solution is used, spray the cloth and then wipe down the blocks.
Some discoloration of the blocks is likely to occur over time.

DO NOT spray cleaning solutions directly on blocks
Want to add a finish?**
If you wish to add a finish to your Digit Widgit kit to protect the wood and make cleaning a little easier, a finish can be added to the blocks. Several options are available while still remaining child-safe and environmentally friendly. Food grade finishes, like mineral oils or beeswax finish will seal the pores of the wood and prevent most outside substances from soaking into the wood. Follow all application instructions for chosen finish.
Local home improvement stores are likely to carry Howard's Cutting Board Oil for approximately $10. Oil can be reapplied as needed. Note that adding a finish to the blocks will visually darken the blocks & balance.

One of my blocks doesn't balance...
Natural wood varies in density. This can make some Digit Widgit blocks vary from precisely our ideal weight. If your kit has a block that doesn't balance, we will replace the block free of charge.
